Hurricane Rafael Moves Into Gulf After Lashing Cuba

Hurricane Rafael is heading out over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico after lashing Cuba and wiping out the entire island nation's energy grid.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Rafael remains a Category 2 storm with top winds of 100 miles-per-hour.

The hurricane is expected to weaken over the next few days as it moves westward.

Forecasters continue to note some uncertainty remains over Rafael's ultimate track. The NHC says they are currently leaning towards models suggesting a move into the southern Gulf, but further adjustments could be needed.
