Louisiana Foster Stays Raise Basic Needs Concerns

Some Louisiana foster kids face emergency housing situations where even getting three healthy meals a day is a challenge.

A new report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services shows 41 foster children accounted for 48 unapproved stays over an 18-month span.

Federal inspectors found state records failed to show how those stays broke down between hotels, government offices, or other unlicensed sites.

The audit also gives no current Louisiana numbers or proof the problems have been fixed.
