NHC Watching Northeastern Gulf, U.S. East Coast For Possible Development

A tropical system could take shape near Florida early next week, but forecasters say the chances of development remain low.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is tracking a disturbance expected to form over the northeastern Gulf this weekend, with a 20 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm within seven days.

The system is forecast to move slowly northeast toward the southeastern U.S. coast.

Even if it does not develop, forecasters say it could bring higher rain and thunderstorm chances across parts of Florida through early next week.
