A Baton Rouge native is a world record powerlifter.

Azariah Pierce is a Tara High School alum, who served eight years in the Marine Corps before becoming a powerlifting phenomenon.

After a 13-year career in the sport, Pierce holds seven state records, two national records and two world records, having once deadlifted 883 pounds.
