Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming is claiming election interference by Gov. Jeff Landry in his race for the U.S. Senate against fellow Republican Julia Letlow.
Fleming is a medical doctor who served in the U.S. Congress from 2009 to 2017, worked on the COVID-19 vaccine in the first Trump administration. He was elected state treasurer in 2023.
Fleming says Landry and his associates in D.C. convinced the president to endorse Letlow.
When Fleming called Trump to ask why, the president asked why he hadn't called sooner. Fleming said everyone on Trump's staff blocked his attempts to call.
