A state official says a recent study about the inevitable sinking of New Orleans is "alarmist."
Dr. Torbjorn Tornqvist, a geology professor at Tulane University, published a study that claims the city could be completely under the sea by the end of the century.
Gordon Dove, chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, calls the study "ridiculous."
Dove says the sea level isn't rising as high as the study projects, and the multibillion-dollar levee system built after Hurricane Katrina is capable of protecting New Orleans.
