Louisiana Senate Approves Congressional Redistricting Map

The proposed new Louisiana congressional district map now goes to the House for consideration.

The state Senate passed the redistricting bill on Thursday by a vote of 27-10.

The map would give Republicans a 5-1 edge in the state's delegation and eliminate one of the state's two majority-black districts.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the newer of the two districts was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

If the House passes the new map, lawmakers have until June 1st to approve it.
