Louisiana voters shot down five constitutional amendments on Saturday's ballot.
In the Baton Rouge area, an attempt to establish a school district in the City of St. George was overwhelmingly rejected by voters in East Baton Rouge Parish, and voters outside the parish also said no thanks. It needed the approval of both to move forward.
A proposal to fund a teacher pay raise by dissolving education trust funds was also rejected.
The other amendments that failed focused on lawmakers' power over removing unclassified state civil service workers, how parishes decide on assessing property taxes on business inventory, and changing the mandatory retirement age for judges.
