No injuries were reported after explosion at the Chalmette Refinery on Friday afternoon.
The blast happened around 1 p.m. at an operating unit and triggered a fire. Fire crews responded to the scene and had the fire under control in about ten minutes.
Local residents say the explosion shook their homes and businesses.
The refinery hasn't said what caused the explosion or what was burning afterward.
Parish officials say air-monitoring systems were making sure the area was safe for nearby residents.
