Broome Hires Lawyer, Grand Jury Meeting Postponed

Former East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome is getting lawyered up as a corruption probe of her administration widens.

The mayor was subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury today, but the meeting has been postponed and hasn't been rescheduled.

Eight people face criminal charges so far for suspected kickback schemes involving public funds.

Broome was subpoenaed after five East Baton Rouge Metro Council members were called before the grand jury last week.

Neither Broome nor the five council members are accused of wrongdoing.
