Baton Rouge is cracking down on people with outstanding warrants in an effort to deal with a backlog of city court cases.

A recent report says the Baton Rouge City Court has more than 100,000 outstanding bench warrants, about 15 times the national average for a city this size.

As of Monday, officers started picking up people with active warrants and bringing them to city court to clear things up before a judge.

Most cases are misdemeanors that can be resolved by paying a fine. But neglecting warrants can lead to trouble later on.
