A candlelight prayer vigil will be held at the Mall of Louisiana Monday following a shooting that left one dead and others injured.
The vigil, which is open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. near the side of the Main Event location at the mall. East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sid Edwards, State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle, Founder President of the United Cajun Navy Todd Terrell and CEO of the Servant's Heart Foundation Cathy Tolliver will be in attendance.
“This is a moment for our community to come together in faith, compassion, and remembrance,” organizers said. “We mourn together, we pray together, and we begin the process of healing together.”
Candles will be provided.
The shooting, which authorities say stemmed from an argument between two groups of people at the mall's food court, took the life of Martha Odom, 17, a senior at Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette.
Baton Rouge Police have arrested Markel Lee, 17, in connection with the shooting. Lee faces charges that include one count of first-degree murder.
The search continues for another person police believe is connected to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867) or submit a tip via the P3 Tips App.
