A new state House bill would waive driver's license fees for low-income Louisiana residents.

House Bill 712 would exempt anybody living below the poverty line from paying the fee.

The latest federal guidelines define the poverty line for a single-person household as $15,960 a year. The measure is intended to help homeless people who need ID to apply for jobs or social services.

The House passed the bill unanimously, and it's now on its way to the Senate.
