Louisiana lawmakers are considering a bill to open a recreational alligator hunting season.
Sen. Robert Allain filed Senate Bill 244, which would create a new recreational season without interfering with the existing commercial season.
The bill passed out of committee on Wednesday with no objections.
Allain says recreational hunting would help curb a growing gator population and make use of commercial hunting tags that are returned every year.
