A mother is in custody after a gun was found in her child's backpack at a Baton Rouge school.
The student discovered the weapon inside their backpack while in school after a teacher checked the bag.
The weapon contained ten rounds of ammunition, with no injuries or threats reported.
Vannicea McCray said she placed the firearm on the side of the child's backpack and forgot to remove it before the child left for school.
McCray was arrested and the firearm was secured as evidence.
