Louisiana's crawfish industry is facing a crisis because of a shortage of foreign workers.

Crawfish farmers and processing plant owners say a cap on H-2B visa programs has prevented them from hiring skilled, experienced guest workers.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture says 15 of the state's 20 crawfish peeling plants haven't hired any foreign workers this season.

Officials point out that these aren't illegal immigrants, but seasonal workers who do the job and then go home.

Not enough American workers are applying for the jobs.
