A former city official is in custody following her indictment for corruption charges.
A grand jury indicted former Assistant CAO Courtney Scott and local businesswoman Veronica Mathis on Wednesday. Scott is accused of steering parish contracts to Mathis's company in exchange for kickbacks.
Scott and Mathis face charges of theft, bribery, money laundering, fraud, and conspiracy. Scott is also charged with malfeasance in office.
Mathis was arrested on Wednesday, and Scott turned herself in on Thursday.
