Southern University officials are noting the death of Reverend Jesse Jackson.
Jackson's family announced that he died Tuesday at his home in Chicago. He was 84.
A statement from Southern said in part, "The Southern University System joins the nation and the world in mourning the passing of the Reverend Jesse Jackson - a towering figure in the struggle for civil rights, social justice, and economic empowerment."
Southern awarded Jackson an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 2023.
