Representative Julia Letlow is vacating the seat to run for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Bill Cassidy.
Miguez ended his own campaign for Cassidy's seat to redirect resources towards his bid for the U.S. House of Representatives
Miguez is a Republican and strong supporter of President Donald Trump.
District 5 stretches from Monroe to Baton Rouge to Bogalusa. Also running for the seat are State Senator Rick Edmonds and State Representative Dixon McMakin.
