State officials are preparing to deal with the winter storm in the forecast for Louisiana this weekend.
Gov. Jeff Landry issued a state of emergency on Thursday as an ice storm threatened parts of the state.
The severe weather may bring icy road conditions and power outages. Officials urged residents to stay off icy roads if possible.
More than 5,000 utility workers are standing by across Louisiana to deal with power outages. National Guard troops are at the ready with generators, hot meals, and bottled water.
The biggest impacts for southeast Louisiana are expected after the frigid air moves in, with multiple nights of hard freezes forecast.
