Candidates are lining up to run for the U.S. congressional seat being left vacant by Representative Julia Letlow, who's running for the U.S. Senate.

The state's 5th Congressional District covers almost the entire border between Louisiana and Mississippi, stretching from Monroe to Baton Rouge to Bogalusa, and all the rural areas in between.

Instead of running for reelection, Letlow is challenging Sen. Bill Cassidy in the GOP primary.

State Sen. Rick Edmonds is running for Letlow's seat, and state Representative Dixon McMakin may do so.
