Nearby residents are opposed to a proposal to grant a permanent liquor license to a North Baton Rouge business.

The Baton Rouge Alcoholic Beverage Control Board recently extended a temporary liquor license for Neighborhood Market & Deli on Plank Road for a month. The board will decide next month whether to grant the business a permanent license.

City Councilman Darryl Hurst represents the area, and says there are 14 liquor stores within two miles of the location. Hurst says other types of stores would be more welcome.
