Residents of Louisiana's River Parishes are preparing for the tradition of Christmas bonfires on the Mississippi River levee.

Along Highway 44, hundreds of families are stacking logs into wooden structures to light up the sky on Christmas Eve.

At least 2,000 visitors are expected top show up for the spectacle.

The St. James Parish Sheriff's Office says there will be a heavy police presence on side streets along the highway. No contraflow will be in effect, as traffic will be guided through two lanes.

Shuttle services are available.
