Louisiana officials are allowing a 90-day extension for United Healthcare's Medicaid contract.

The state had threatened not to renew the deal over the company's failure to provide payment records dating back to 2021.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Attorney General Liz Murrill addressed a Senate committee on Tuesday, defending the decision not to renew the contract.

The extension of the deadline from December 31st to mid-February gives United Healthcare more time to provide the requested documents.

Beneficiaries will also have more time to switch to new Medicaid providers if necessary.
