The Denham Springs City Council is giving the go-ahead to the construction of a new $45 million hotel and conference center.

Last year, a developer donated than 20 acres of land to the city on North Range Avenue just off I-12.

On Monday, city council members approved the plans for a venue that draws people to festivals and sports tournaments that usually go to Baton Rouge.

Mayor Gerard Landry says the goal is to have the project finished by 2027.
