Baton Rouge Mayor Plans To Cut City-Parish Government Jobs

The budget Mayor Sid Edwards presented to the Metro Council on Wednesday calls for job cuts in the city-parish government.

Edwards told council members the billion-dollar budget projects a revenue loss of $50 million over two years because of the incorporation of the City of St. George.

He said half of the 400 positions that will have to be cut are already unfilled.

Edwards says the focus will be on funding vital services like the police.

The council is expected to vote on the budget proposal on December 10.
