A bipartisan effort is underway to get the National Flood Insurance Program up and running again despite the federal government shutdown.

There are about half a million flood insurance policies in effect in Louisiana, but the program has expired amid the shutdown.

Louisiana Democratic Congressman Troy Carter and Rep. Mike Ezell, a Mississippi Republican, are working together to try to get Congress to take action.

The two of them sent a letter last Thursday to House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, asking them to restart the flood insurance program.
