Gov. Jeff Landry is submitting a formal request for up to 1,000 National Guard troops to be deployed across Louisiana.
Landry says he sent a letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth asking him to activate the Guard.
The governor says crime rates are up in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and other cities, and that police departments with manpower shortages could use the Guard's help.
He says the Louisiana National Guard will bring extra presence, provide logistical and communications support, and secure key infrastructure.
