Vape detectors are on the way to every middle and high school in Livingston Parish.
The devices will be placed in bathrooms and locker rooms, and will alert administrators when they detect smoke or vapor. When a detector goes off, it will activate a nearby camera to catch who's in the area.
The detectors will also monitor sound, in case somebody is in distress or there's a fight.
The parish's Opioid Abatement Fund is providing $221,000 to pay for the detectors, as well as telehealth therapy and drug testing.
