Livingston Parish is installing a new system to provide its Emergency Operations Center with accurate weather data.

A FEMA grant of more than $476,000 will cover the cost of nine advanced weather stations throughout the parish, at places like fire stations and schools.

The devices will transmit real-time weather data to the Emergency Operations Center during storms, including rainfall amounts, wind speeds, and lightning strikes.

The new system should be up and running within the year ahead.
