Investigation Underway Into Death Of West Baton Rouge Jail Inmate

An investigation is underway into the death of an inmate at the West Baton Rouge Parish jail.

Unterio Lewis was arrested last month for refusing to leave a Port Allen casino. Lewis was also charged with resisting an officer.

Three days after he was jailed, Lewis was found unresponsive in his cell.

Deputies and medical personnel performed life-saving measures, but he died at a local hospital.

An autopsy found Lewis died of combined drug toxicity, but his official cause of death is still pending.
