The Central City Council is rejecting a request from the police chief to fire the assistant chief.
Chief Roger Corcoran claimed Assistant Chief Cliff Ivey had violated department policy, but he didn't give details.
At a meeting on Tuesday night, Ivey's supporters claimed he'd been falsely accused of discussing an internal affairs investigation with somebody not employed by the department.
Council members met behind doors for more than three hours before unanimously declining Corcoran's request.
