Former EBR Mayor-President Kip Holden Has Died

Former East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Melvin "Kip" Holden has died.

Holden's family said in a statement he passed away following a lengthy illness.

He served as Mayor-President from 2005 to 2016 following terms on the Baton Rouge Metro Council, and serving as a State Representative from 1988 to 2002 and State Senator from 2002 to 2004.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Holden was 72 years old.
