Livingston Parish Councilman Dean Coates is apologizing to his constituents following a DWI charge on Friday evening.

Deputies pulled Coates over around 6 p.m. on State Highway 444 at Miller Road.

Coates is also charged with speeding, improper lane usage, and having an expired inspection sticker. Deputies issued him a citation but didn't take him to jail.

Coates is a retired Louisiana State Trooper who was elected in 2023 to the Livingston Parish Council.

In a Facebook post, he said he took full responsibility for his actions.
