Superintendent LaMont Cole of East Baton Rouge Parish Schools says a closed campus could be turned into a place for new teachers to live.

Cole proposed an idea to repurpose Westminster Elementary into affordable housing for new educators, complete with on-site childcare.

He says this reuse of otherwise idle district property could also work as a strategy to recruit and retain teachers.

The idea is still in the early stages of development.
