Gonzales is looking into the possibility of adopting a four-day work week for city employees.
The four days would involve ten-hour shifts, so residents would have a longer time to access city services and utilities.
Mayor Tim Riley says the employees like the idea, though they'll have to figure something out for workers who need to shuttle their kids to school or other activities. Also, the four days may be staggered so city offices will still be open on Fridays.
The City Council tabled the vote pending a study of the cost of making the change.
