Applications start Saturday for a new state-funded scholarship program that will cover the costs of private schooling.
The Louisiana Department of Education will administer the LA Gator Scholarship Program, which the state legislature created last year.
The state will pay scholarship funds directly to the schools to pay for classes, books, uniforms and other educational expenses.
Critics say the school-choice program could harm the public school system.
