The Baker School Board is moving ahead with a plan to close two schools starting in the next school year.

Board members voted during a meeting on Wednesday evening to close Baker Heights Elementary and Baker Middle School.

The board made the move to prevent the Louisiana Board of Education from taking over the schools because of failing grades.

Trustees had considered options such as merging the schools, but ended up voting 3-2 to close them both.
