Mayor LaToya Cantrell's Homeland Security chief says the city's federal SEAR 1 designation is a big deal.

After the terrorist attack on New Year's Day, President Joe Biden honored Cantrell's request for the highest threat rating for the Carnival season.

Collin Arnold says few special events merit the SEAR (Special Event Assessment Rating) 1 designation, and that up to 1,000 federal law enforcement personnel may come to town.

The designation will be in effect from February 21 through March 4.
