Law enforcement agencies are keeping an eye out for people whose idea of New Year's Eve fireworks is shooting guns in the air.
Stray bullets can damage vehicles and buildings, and occasionally wound or even kill bystanders.
A year ago, Baton Rouge police arrested several young men who were shooting guns in Edan Park. Their bullets hit a nearby church daycare building.
Iberville Parish deputies arrested at least three people last year for shooting guns at midnight.
Violators will be cited and possibly arrested, and their guns will be confiscated.
