Local marine biologists are assuring Louisiana residents that shark attacks on the Gulf Coast are very rare.

A series of shark attacks in Florida last week injured a 45-year-old woman and two teenage girls. In addition, a 19-year-old woman was bitten off Galveston Island the day after Memorial Day.

Kristine Grzenda with the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans says the more people are in the water, the more likely a shark attack becomes.

But you still have a much greater chance of being hit by lightning.
