Interim St. George City Officials To Be Sworn In Today

Interim officials for the breakaway city of St. George will be sworn in this afternoon.

Over the objections of Baton Rouge officials, the state Supreme Court ruled in April that the city should be incorporated.

The following month, Gov. Jeff Landry appointed Dustin Yates as St. George's first mayor and Todd Morris as the first police chief.

The next week, Landry appointed the five members of the City Council.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church on Jones Creek Road, but it isn't open to the public.
