An elderly Vietnam veteran is recovering from smoke inhalation after a passing stranger rescued him from his burning house in Houma.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says an electrical fire started last Wednesday in the kitchen of 80-year-old Kenneth Cobb's home on Garnet Street.

Jeremy Trahan was driving past when he saw the smoke. Trahan ran inside the house and pulled Cobb and his wheelchair to safety.

Cobb says it's a miracle his oxygen tanks near the fire didn't explode.

Trahan says Cajun communities look after each other.
