A new ship is now part of the Carnival cruise fleet that sails out of New Orleans.

As of Monday, the Port of New Orleans is the home of the Carnival Liberty, which will sail year-round cruises to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal.

The ship was built in 2005 but is a new member of the NOLA fleet.

Carnival carries about 400,000 passengers from New Orleans every year, generating more than 300,000 hotel room nights and more than $125 million in tourist dollars spent in the city.
