Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome is allocating more money to the Baton Rouge police to pay for "proactive policing" measures.
Broome approved up to $35,000 a week to cover overtime pay for officers who are working additional hours. The money will pay ten officers to work six overtime hours a day for seven days a week.
The extra hours will be dedicated to proactive policing in areas experiencing spikes in crime.
Two people were killed and three others wounded in shootings over the weekend.
