Gov. Jeff Landry doesn't intend to make last year's pay raise for public school teachers permanent.
Landry's proposed budget for the next fiscal year includes $198 million for a second round of stipends for teachers and support staff, instead of permanent pay hikes.
The same amount was distributed last year in across-the-board stipends.
Landry wants to focus on high-performing teachers and hard-to-fill positions like science, math and special education.
