Democratic elected officials are calling on Gov. Jeff Landry to reverse the state's decision not to participate in the federal Summer EBT program.
The Department of Children and Family Services announced the decision last Friday.
The USDA estimates the $71 million program would benefit about 594,000 children.
The Louisiana House Democratic Caucus on Monday issued a statement opposing Landry's decision and urging him to reverse course.
Louisiana families will still have access to the usual SNAP benefits.
