All middle schools and high schools in East Baton Rouge Parish are now equipped with walk-through metal detectors.
Students enrolled in grades six to 12 are required to pass through one at their school's single point of entry.
There are more than 15,000 students in the 21 middle and high schools in the parish.
The school system acquired the metal detectors at the start of the semester.
Each detector costs about $4,000, funded by a federal school security grant.
