A Baton Rouge lawyer is suing over the state legislature's bill doing away with open primary elections in Louisiana.

Jeffry Sanford's lawsuit claims the House Governmental Affairs Committee heard public testimony on House Bill 17 on January 16.

Gov. Jeff Landry had declared a state of weather emergency on January 14, resulting in the closure of state offices on the 16th.

Sanford claims the public therefore wouldn't have known about the committee meeting, so it was "fraudulently concealed."

The bill awaits Landry's signature.
