U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy is announcing the sale of 73 million acres of federal oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico.
Cassidy says Lease Sale 261 received 352 total bids after a federal judge's blockage of the administration's plan to scale back Gulf oil lease sales to protect a species of whale.
The judge ordered the Interior Department in September to expand the scheduled sale of Gulf oil and gas leases by millions of acres.
Cassidy calls the decision a welcome change "after years of slow-walking by the Biden administration."
